IE8 Tabs taking longer than normal to close ?

Postby Invader Zim » Wed Feb 10, 2010 2:12 pm

Hi all,

For some reason my IE8 tabs/open web pages are taking up to 5-10 seconds to close after clicking the 'x'. Anybody else experienced this and found out why. . . pretty annoying after about 2 times (now about the 50th time. . . :x ) Thanks.

Hi Zim,

I'm not too sure what could be causing your particular problem with IE8 Tabs lagging when you're trying to close them. However, I have heard a number of people talking about 'Add-ons' and that disabling them will, if nothing else, speed your IE8 browsing experience up a bit. Select Tools > Manage Addons - it's self-explanatory from then on out. I'm not sure whether it's going to cure your IE8 Tab Lag issue, but surely it can't hurt IE8s' performance to disable some add-ons. Good luck with it, let me know how you get on. Cheers.

Hi super - yeah I disabled some addons and made little if any difference. I actually turned my PC off (first time for about 3months) and back on again and the problem seemed to have gone. However, it does somtimes re-occur from time to time, I have no idea why, and then it stops again, and again; I have no idea why. Microsoft should just name the next browser release - ' Y ' and perhaps follow it up with the next one being called ' X ' - nice chromosone theme but also the X gives the user a clue what to click on when something uneplained and annoying happens.

I think there is not any problems with IE8. Microsoft browser is becoming better and better. They are trying to make a product to rival with firefox or opera

I think that IE8 is just generally a slow web browser...in fact i go so far as to say i absolutely hate it! So i would recommend you sack it off and download the latest version of Firefox! Much better...a lot faster, cooler add-ons, you can now get themes for it. It runs like a dream on my brand new free laptop. My second choice wouldnt even be IE8...it would be Google Chrome...so if its really annoying you that much get Firefox!

Hi rwalker, yeah I've tried using firefox and google chrome, I don't know what it is about those browsers though, I don't really ever seem to notice a difference in speed and for reasons I just can't explain I just prefer IE. Perhaps it's just familiarity more than anything, I don't know. However, whether it's been solved by a windows update recently or something but the slow tab problem I was having before just seems to have 'evaporated'.

Here are some steps to fox it:Run Command Prompt (you will need to run a administrative command prompt - Run ad Administrator). Then, Type Following Command regsvr32 actxprxy.dll, Press ‘Enter’ Key in your keyboard, Then You will see a Small Box appearing which says ” DllRegister Service in actxprxy.dll is succeeded”, Then Click Start, and then click Run.In the Open box, type regsvr32 shdocvw.dll. Click OK, and then click OK again. You will get this message: DllRegisterServer in shdocvw.dll succeeded. Now restart your computer. Your tab issue should be resolved by now.

That's no problem. I know some people prefer a different browser to Firefox, and a ton of my personal friends still use IE since it's what they're used to. The problem is that it's not all that well designed, even in new versions, which is why things like your tab closing issue keep occurring.

You can probably cut down on delay by minimizing Flash and javascript usage. For some reason, Internet Explorer seems to slow to a crawl when it's forced to keep too many objects open in different tabs. If you're watching Flash videos or something on Youtube, just open it in a different window and use Windows 7's options to open them all from the same icon. That should increase performance a little bit.

After upgrading to IE8, it was the first time I access Gmail for a fresh start the browser the screen is blank except Loading bar at the top left of the screen. Press Refresh in the browser correct and reload the page.

I think many users have the same problem and this shows the drawback of Internet Explorer 8. You can do the following.
1. Open an administrative level command prompt.
2. Type regsvr32 actxprxy.dll and press Enter
3. After recovering this reboot the system.
May your problem will be solved.
