I own a small software development company for more than 5 years and never have I hired someone for marketing to get clients. My main source of clients was people I knew and various contacts that connected me with the right people. Now, I reached a point that I consider these sources "depleted" and various events have led me to understand that I must stop being so very dependent on them.

Shortly about the company. Usually, we take projects that require at least 2 full-time programmers for at least 2 months. Our longest project has been running for the past year and a half, with 5 programmers working full-time. We work with all modern technologies and can always learn new ones (or hire the right programmers). We develop high quality products for a very competitive price (mainly due to our location in the world + we don't rent office space).

Now, I decided to invest in marketing and I'm ready to hire the right marketing/advertisement person/service to find new clients. My questions are,

What is the best and the right way for this kind of business to find new clients?

What is the name of the marketing service I should be looking for? I looked around in some freelance sites and there's a lot of subcategories for sales and marketing, most of which do not sound relevant.
