Windows 7 Ultimate - 0xC004F058 - Build 7600 Not Genuine

Postby jubjub » Wed Mar 10, 2010 10:46 am

Hi all ----> :o

I have a copy of windows 7 ultimate installed on my computer. The computer has been working fine for. . months. Then today I got this message saying that it is not a genuine copy. The background on the desktop went black and now there is a little message in the bottom right hand corner that says: Windows 7 Build 7600 This copy of Windows is not genuine. I'm guessing it is a dodgy copy that has been installed. My question really is: Can I just carry on as normal or will my computer stop working at some point, if it's going to stop working then I'd better start backing my data up quicksmart.

Any help would be appreciated.

Thanks guys.

Hi jubjub,

Sounds to me like Microsoft are trying to close your ass down because you have dodgy copy of windows 7 ultimate. I seen this pop up quite a few times with various people. I think it has to do with the Windows 7 Activation Update KB971033. For further reading and educational/research purposes you might like to check this link out: http://www.geekmontage.com/how-to-uninstall-windows-7-activation-update-kb971033/ - I have not tried anyof these things myself and so I can't say anything about them in all honesty.

Good luck - yeah and I'd back up all your stuff anyway before anything else, just in case ;)

From what I've read and heard, although you get the annoying popups telling you that your copy of Windows 7 is not genuine. I don't think it has any other effects on your computer (other than changing your desktop background to black) and everything else should work as normal. Seems like more of prompt from Microsoft for customers who have bought machines with dodgy software on them to report the actual people/businesses loading these types of OS onto paying customers machines. See the MS linky: http://support.microsoft.com/kb/971033/en-us

Thanks for the replies. Weirdly, and I have no idea why, but the message in the corner telling me that windows 7 is not genuine has now dissapeared and also no more black background or popups in the right hand corner. Weird! but. . . . Great! Oddly, I did notice a windows update notification very shortly after or around the time that this happened. Maybe is a genuine version after all and windows rectified their 'wrongdoing'? Anyways, it's aallllllll gravy :D

:x b0000 - it's back! Looks like Microsoft was just kidding me. Has anybody else come across this at all? Is there an easy way of 'gettin rid'? It doesn't seem to be doing anything but notifying me but I'd rather not keep getting notified really. Thanks in advance.

I remove windows activation notification mode. I was about to try and download the removeWAT21 until I checked my system status. it’s already reverted back to being “Windows is Activated”. so I guess I'm done(?) or do I still need to run removeWAT21 and do the official ms activation steps listed above.
